At Hansen Bros. Moving & Storage, we know that moving can be stressful enough without having to worry about spending money to cover possible damages. That’s why we take insurance for moving so seriously.
When evaluating moving companies, don’t just look at price but at what you get for the cost, particularly how insurance for moving is handled. You should NEVER choose a moving company that doesn’t have adequate insurance. It’s important to ask about the following:
- What kind of liability coverage is provided for property loss or damage and how far does it extend (or not!)?
- Does the estimated value of your possessions on the contract reflect what you have on your own list?
- What is the moving company’s process to submit a claim? Ask if they have any outstanding complaints or claims.
Moving is one of those times in your life when it pays to read the small print. Be sure to get a full copy of the estimate in writing (including any relevant terms and conditions, bills of lading etc.) and that you completely understand how the estimate works. For example, some moving companies won’t cover you for damage if you pack goods yourself unless they play an obvious role in damaging them.
